The PMI’s Annual Pharma Summit will be held on March 30th, 2023 at Croke Park. 

 

Our theme for the day is “Partnering to Improve Human Health” and we will be exploring this theme throughout the day from four vantage points: Technology, Government, Cross Company and Intra Company.  

The day will be highly interactive with a mix of keynote speakers and panel discussions with plenty of opportunities to catch up with industry colleagues and make new connections.

The speakers for Pharma Summit ’23 are: 

Section 1: 


Dr Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer – HSE 

Dr Henry is an consultant geriatrician and has held the role of Chief Clinical Officer of the Health Service
Executive since April 2018.  He previously served as National Clinical Advisor and Group Lead for Acute Hospitals from 2014 to 2018, National Lead for the Clinical Director Programme from 2012 to 2014 and Clinical Director of the Mercy University Hospital, Cork from 2009 to 2012. 

 

 

 


Andrew Browne, Director, Business Consulting – EY Ireland
Andrew is a Director in EY specialising in Business Consulting in Life Sciences. In his current role Andrew works with both global and indigenous pharmaceutical and biotech companies on their commercial, market access and launch strategies. 

He has twenty years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry working for AbbVie, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Organon. 

 

 

 


Dr Orlaith O’Reilly, National Clinical Advisor & Group Lead for Chronic Disease – HSE

Dr O’Reilly is the Clinical Lead for the Integrated Care Programme for the Prevention and Management of Chronic Disease. She was previously the Director of Public Health in the South Eastern region of Ireland between 1995 and 2014. Orlaith was appointed as the National Clinical Advisor and Programme Group Lead, Health and Wellbeing/Clinical Strategy and Programmes in 2014 and National Clinical Advisor Chronic Disease in 2019.

 

 

Section Two: 

 

Dr Donal Bailey, CEO – Care-Connect 
Dr Bailey has been a medical practitioner since 2009.  He worked on the executive team in Centric Health since 2016, most recently as Director of Clinical Innovation where he was leading new service development, digital and clinical strategy, establishing research programmes, and enterprise engagements.  He is now the CEO of Care-Connect, a digital care management organisation recently launched between Centric Health and Irish Life Health. He is a medical graduate of Trinity College Dublin, with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine 2011 from Queen Mary University London, MICGP since 2016, and Executive MBA 2017 from University College Dublin.

 

 

 

 

Maureen O’Reilly, Medical Advisor Respiratory – GSK
Maureen has 23 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, 20 of which have been spent in GSK working initially in Sales and most recently in the Medical Department as a Medical advisor for Respiratory. Maureen currently leads on a COPD Patient review service for GSK. This service is funded and co-developed by GlaxoSmithKline Limited as a healthcare support service.

 

 

 

 

Thomas Hughes, Head of Business Development & Strategy (Ireland), Interface Clinical Services – IQVIA
Thomas leads the Interface Clinical Services team in Ireland, responsible for the creation, development & delivery of clinical programmes and data platforms.  Thomas brings experience as UK National Account Manager leading national clinical initiatives across the UK as a trusted NHS partner in a range of chronic diseases. 

 

 

 

Janis Morrissey, Director of Health Promotion, Information and Training – Irish Heart Foundation 
Janis leads the Health Promotion, Information and Training Department. The department’s work includes health promotion programmes and campaigns in communities, schools and workplaces, as well as CPR training programmes for the general public and health professionals.  Janis works closely with her advocacy colleagues, she acts as media spokesperson on heart health matters, leads the Irish Heart Foundation’s annual health promotion awareness campaign and coordinates the organisation’s heart health information.  

 

 

Section Three; Panel Discussion: 

 

Padraic O’Brien, Managing Director – Accord Healthcare and Chair of Medicines for Ireland 

Padraic is Managing Director at Accord Healthcare Ireland and Chair of Medicines for Ireland.  He is a native of Monaghan and a graduate of DIT and Trinity College Dublin and has held a number of senior management positions within Accord, most recently as Commercial Director where he has overseen the implementation of the Accord Sales Strategy.

 

 

 

 

Michael O’Connell, General Manager – Biogen and President of IPHA 
Michael has been Country Director at Biogen for the past eight years. He has worked in the biopharmaceutical industry for the past 31 years. He spent 23 years at Bristol Myer Squibb where he was appointed Country Manager in 2011.  Michael has an MBA from University College Cork. 

 

 

 

 

 

Alison Muir, General Manager – Roche Ireland 
Alison has considerable Pharma experience, mainly in Sales, Marketing and Operations gained both within the UK and internationally. Since October 2020, Alison has held the role of General Manager of Roche Ireland, previous to this she was Roche’s UK Oncology Director. 

 

 

 

 

Panel Chair: Brenda Dooley, Founder & CEO – AXIS Consulting 

Recognising the need for local expertise in reimbursement submissions, Brenda founded AXIS Consulting in early 2012 . As an experienced market access strategist with 20+ years of international biopharma industry experience, Brenda and her team have developed over 100 bespoke and high-quality reimbursement submissions for the Irish authorities. As Chief Executive at AXIS, Brenda has led the company to its position as the dominant provider for submissions to the Irish authorities and is now leading the expansion of the company into the UK providing HTA submissions to NICE and also the SMC.  Shortlisted for the CEO of the Year for the 2023 IMAGE /PwC Businesswoman of the Year Awards, Brenda also recently secured Enterprise Ireland membership for AXIS. She is a strong advocate for increasing the number of female led STEM businesses in Ireland & the UK .

 

 

Section Four: 


Dr Roisin Adams, Head of HTA Strategy & External Engagement – NCPE
Dr Adams is Head of HTA Strategy and External engagement for the NCPE. Roisin led the HTA team for a number of years before being seconded to the HSE to lead a new unit tasked with overseeing and managing high cost drugs in acute hospitals.  Roisin co-chairs the HTA domain of the BeNeLuxA initiative and oversees the EUNetHTA work of the NCPE. She also is a Director on the Board of the International Horizon Scanning Initiative.

 

 

 

Shane Ryan, General Manager – Takeda 
Shane has been General Manager at Takeda for a number of years and was part of their startup team in Ireland in 2010. He has more than 22 years biopharmaceutical industry experience having worked with a number of companies in a variety of roles from customer facing through to strategic management. He holds third level qualifications in Chemistry,  Marketing and Business and is the current Vice President of the IPHA. Shane has a particular interest in equitable access to medicine, industry reputation and its societal impact.

 

 

 

Dima Samaha, Principal, Payer Evidence Solutions – IQVIA 
Dima Samaha is a Principal within the Payer Evidence Solution practice at IQVIA. Her recent work has focused on supporting pharmaceutical companies in conceptualizing payer evidence generation strategies, successfully engaging with HTA bodies and decision makers and understanding the implications of the pan -European HTA regulation and the use of real-world evidence in HTA.
As a consultant to the World Health Organization on HTA, Dima was involved in foundational workstreams on access to medical devices and in the implementation of the first survey on the status and the use of HTA principles following the adoption by the World Health Assembly of the resolution on HTA.

Conall O’Móráin, Business Broadcaster, MC & Podcaster

Conall has been the leading voice of Irish business for decades, and his multitude of projects and experience in business and media reflect the life experience of a true expert.

He is chair of the Dublin based Ireland International Business Network, the leading global Irish business network, as well as a former RTE Business Correspondent in TV and radio. He was recruited as a stockbroker with ABN AMRO where he worked for eight years during which time he was appointed a director of the firm. He twice won the Sunday Tribune national share tipping competition.  From 2005 to 2018 he presented the Sunday Business Show on Today FM, which was the national station’s most listened to Sunday programme.
