Following on from our first event in this series on 10th September the series continues on 15th October.
This event will focus on HCP’s and their experience through Covid19
- how they are continuing to provide care
- impact of Covid19 on waiting times, screenings, backlog for treatment
- how the medical landscape has changed
- how they are now engaging with industry now and into the future.

- Dr Shane McKeogh, General Practitioner – Sólás Medical Centre & Co-Founder of GPBuddy.ie
- Prof John Crown, Consultant Medical Oncologist – St. Vincent’s Private Hospital
Prior to the event, Fresh Perspectives will be polling HCP’s to get insights on this topic from as many HCP’s as possible. The results of this poll will be shared at the event.
We will be hosting these sessions online in accordance with HSE guidelines to protect our members.

Prof Hugh Mulcahy, Consultant Gastroenterologist – St Vincent’s Private Hospital
Hugh is a Professor of Clinical Medicine in University College Dublin and Head of Gastroenterology in St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. He trained in Dublin, London and South Carolina, USA, specialising in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases and interventional endoscopy.
His primary research interests are in the epidemiology and treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis with sub-specialist interests in psychological disability and clinical services.
Prof Mulcahy has published over 100 original articles in high impact peer-reviewed journals, and was a regular speaker at national and international conferences until Covid-19 struck!
Prof John Crown, Consultant Medical Oncologist – St. Vincent’s University Hospital
Prof John Crown received his medical training in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States. He undertook his postdoctoral training in Guy’s Hospital, London and St. James’s Hospital, Dublin and went on to complete his fellowship training in oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Centre and at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre. He served as Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College and Assistant Member at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre before joining St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin, Ireland in 1993.
Prof Crown is a founding member and leader of many organisations, including: the All-Ireland Cooperative Oncology Research Group (ICORG, www.icorg.ie) and the Anglo-Celtic Cooperative Oncology Group (ACCOG). Prof Crown also founded the Clinical Trials Unit at St. Vincent’s University Hospital which has developed an international leadership role in oncology trials. professorships in cancer research from both Dublin City University and University College Dublin.
Prof Crown has lectured in more than 40 countries and has received several national and international awards. He has published over 200 research articles.
From 2011 to 2016, Professor Crown served as an independent member of the Irish Senate.
Dr Shane McKeogh, General Practitioner – Sólás Medical Centre & Co-Founder of GPBuddy.ie
Shane is a GP Principal at Solas Medical Centre in Rathfarnham, Dublin 14, and is a GP Trainer with the TCD/HSE GP Training Scheme.
Shane graduated from UCD in 2000. He completed specialist General Practice training and qualified as a GP in 2005. He has worked as a GP in the UK and Australia as well as Ireland giving him useful insights into different healthcare systems. He is a previous director of the ICGP Network of Establishing GPs group, co-authoring “Signposts to Success”, an Irish College of GPs publication relating to the business and organisational aspects of General Practice in Ireland, and currently sits on the GP Committee of the Irish Medical Organisation.
Shane is one of the Founders of GPBuddy.ie, an online resource for Ireland’s GPs. GPBuddy.ie is a widely used online resource for GPs in Ireland, comprising CPD approved educational modules, a comprehensive database of medical and healthcare professionals and discussion forums, with over 2,700 GPs in Ireland using GPBuddy.ie on a regular basis. Shane is one of the Founders of the Covid19 GPBuddy Community Tracker, launched on 31st March 2020. It surveys GPs nationwide on the number of possible Covid cases they are seeing each day and the number of cases they are referring for tests. The results function as a national early warning system ahead of test-confirmed data and are fed daily to the Department of Health and Central Statistics Office and have been used by NPHET to help with decision making.
